Villa Anita – TEMPRANILLO-MONASTRELL 2016

Description
Denominación de Origen Protegida (D.O.P.) Jumilla, Spain.
The two vineyards are situated in the small town of Ontur, in the southern Spain’s Murcia region. Our 110 year-old Monastrell vines pre-date the great phylloxera attack that devastated the region`s viticulture. This world-renowned wine-producing region enjoys year-round sunshine and scant rainfall, producing miniscule, low-yielding vines that boast intensely fruit-forward, well-ripened and richly juicy grapes.
Dry, limey soils that see 400 to 650mm of rain per year.
Viticulture
50% Tempranillo / 50% Monastrell
Vinification
The healthiest and ripest grapes were hand-picked during the first week of October before the maceration of the skins and must in 500hl temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This
lasted for most of the alcoholic fermentation and was followed by malo-lactic fermentation and delicate filtration.
Analysis
Alc. by Vol.: 13.5% Total Acidity: 5.5 g/l Total Sugars: 2.7 g/l.
The wine is fresh from the most recent harvest with neither oak nor bottle aging. Instead, the emphasis is on maintaining optimum freshness, not to mask the naturally fruit-driven characteristics of the native Spanish grapes.
Tasting Notes
Grown in desert-like conditions at an altitude of nearly 900m, our ancient bush vines produce deeply-flavoured fruit of enviable richness and aromatic intensity. A little time in oak adds hints of vanilla and mocha to the dark mass of concentrated black fruits. Wrapped in a smooth and velvety texture, this blend of Tempranillo and Monastrell is deliciously quaffable on its own and makes a great match for steaks, spicy buffalo wings and ratatouille.
The wine is ready to enjoy right now and if stored in a cool, dark place, will keep at its best for the next 2 to 3 years. Allow to breathe for 10 minutes before serving at room temperature.
This will allow the wine to open up and give the delicious ripefruit aromas a chance to really stretch their legs.
