MIRONE – Garnacha- Tempranillo 2016- Campo de Borja

Description

Denominación de Origen (D.O.) Campo de Borja (Aragón, Spain).

Around 100 hectares of vines, with an average age of 40 years, are pl anted at a density of approximately 2,500 vines per hectare. The vineyard is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Moncayo mountain range in Spain’s Aragon province. Here, the vines are perfectly adapted to the unique micro-climate of long, hot summers and fiercely cold and dry winters.

The loose, rocky soils provide excellent aeration and drainage, abound in limestone and offer very low levels of organic material. The result is Borja’s characteristically small, bush-like vines and the thriving autochthonous Garnacha grapes.

Viticulture

80% Garnacha / 20% Tempranillo

Vinification

Hand-picked during the latter half of October, the two grape varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks. The temperature is controlled initially at 25°C, reaching 30°C after 21 days.

Analysis

Alc. by Vol.: 14% Total Acidity: 6.1 g/l. Total Sugars: 2.6 g/l.

The wine is fresh from the most recent harvest with neither oak nor bottle aging. Instead, the
emphasis is on developing and expressing the fresh, naturally fruit-driven characteristics of ripe grapes.

Tasting Notes

Deep cherry-red hue, with touches of violet over a deep, ruby background. The rich red-berry aromas are complemented by notes of cool fresh pepper and hints of dark chocolate.

The perfect match for richly-flavoured meats, roast veg and mature cheeses. Also great with traditional Spanish fare, such as pata negra cured serrano ham or spicy chorizo sausage.

The wine is ready to drink now and is best enjoyed within 2 years. Serve at room temperature with fine food and good friends.
